The starting point of this trip is the Fira’s cable car station. Our driver will be waiting for you at the top of the cliff, just outside the entrance of the cable car, and take you to the main street where the vehicle will be parked. This distance is around 50 meters of walking which includes also a ramp, if it’s needed, to provide an easy access for wheelchairs.
On the way to Oia the driver will provide you with basic information about the island’s history and in approximately 20 minutes you will arrive to Oia. There you will have one to one and a half hour time to walk around the village, shop, enjoy some Greek coffee or a snack. As you walk around you will also have the chance to see the world’s famous churches with the blue domes. After your stroll the driver will be waiting for you to take you to your next destination, Imerovigli. There you will visit the highest and closest in distance point of the island towards the volcano. You will have time to take some photos and continue your trip to Firostefani. With a breathtaking view and the second most famous church with a blue dome, you will find it difficult to resist to some more photos. Following our route is Megalochori. One of the most traditional estates of the island that includes many old houses that are being bought, renovated and transformed to luxury mansions from celebrities all over the world.
It’s a really romantic and quite place full of blooming flowers. At the center of the village there is a paved square which is surrounded by small traditional shops, that you can get some souvenirs for your loved ones back home, or have some coffee at a traditional coffee shop. Close to Megalochori you find the traditional family winery “Gavalas”, which you can visit and get to taste some of Santorini’s famous local wine. Getting on the road again to visit Prophet Elijah’s monastery, located at the highest point of the island with 600 meters of height. Driving up the road you get the feeling that you are flying with an airplane and as you look around you can see some vacation properties on the edge of the cliff. Approaching the top of the mountain there is the monastery of Prophet Elijah which is dated 300 years old. You can visit the inside of the monastery and purchase, if you like to, traditional products made by the monastery’s monks. Enjoy the magnificent view of the whole island from this spot that suggests images that will be definitely unforgettable. Continuing our trip you will get to see the black sand beach. Sunbathing is the perfect way to enjoy a Greek island as well as swim along the crystal clear waters of Santorini. Free beach cabanas will be available for your private use, as well as coffee, cocktails, beverages and snacks, which you can all purchase from the beach bar. Next stop is the famous red sand beach.
You will get to see the church of Saint Nicholas, which is built inside a rock, and walk a 70 meter dirt track to reach the red sand beach. This beach, as well as the black sand beach, takes its color from the volcano’s lava stone, creating a unique landscape that you don’t get to see every day. It is spotted approximately 500 meters away from the prehistoric town of Akrotiri which is your next stop, where you will get to see findings dated back to the late Neolithic period, at least from the 4rth millennium BC. Getting closer to the Lighthouse location which is located at the southern part of the island, in a rocky area that is surrounded by the Aegean sea providing an iconic scenery.
This lighthouse has been built in 1892 and is still operating today. At the edge of its cliff you will see the well known “Indian rock” which refers to a rock that its shape looks like a native’s American’s head. If the weather allows it and the sky is very clear, as you look at the horizon line, you will have the chance to distinguish the famous mountain of Crete island, Psiloritis. Enjoy the beautiful sunset, where the sun gets drowned inside the sea and where promises of long lasting love are made accompanied by the sound of the waves and the light wind.
Again, as in all of our trips, the driver will take you back to Fira town.
